Not Your Guy | Am I the Photographer For You ?

February 15, 2017

Throughout life, at some point, we will learn that we simply aren’t for everyone. And while I do my best to put my personality out there in an effort to attract those who will love me for who I am, and repel those who simply never will, sometimes it’s best to just spell it out in bold so here it goes:

I’M NOT THE PHOTOGRAPHER FOR YOU IF,

You expect a recreation of your Pinterest board. While the little app is great for inspiration, it can kill the artistic vision. I see it like this: those photos have already been created, and while it’s cool to recreate things, very few people know the forth person who landed on the moon (without googling it). I’m here to curate fresh, authentic, and candidly artistic photos. It’s important to remember that when you book your photographer, you book their style as well. It’s important to trust that your photographer will capture you in a way that will not only be flattering, but also curate photos that you will cherish forever.

You can’t handle imperfection. I treat digital photograph the same way I treat film: I am not a fan of photoshopping elements out of a photo. I see people differently plain and simple, and I feel that imperfections are the things that make us all unique. Does that mean I won’t take care of a break out for you? Of course not, but I am not here to make you a size 0. I’m not here to photoshop the shape of your face. When you click the shutter, you’ve frozen a moment in time: a moment that you can never get back, a moment where everything in that frame is perfectly imperfect. In a world where you can’t tell if a photo is real or photoshopped, we should all hold authenticity close to our hearts.

You don’t value candids. I’m a photojournalist, and while I do pose my couples and solos, most of my work is of candid moments. The reason is simple: we are people. Imperfect people. We have personalities and tiny traits that make us uniquely who we are. While poses are great for editorial photography which I do love, the real human is behind the candid photo. The chin that doubles when we laugh, and don’t even get me started on the obnoxious laugh we all have but hide so we don’t draw attention. The real human is behind the eyes that dim greatly as the authentic smile shows, the real human is one that is natural.

You don’t like adventure. I am not opposed to shooting in the city, and honestly I love it; however, I find that my work is best reflected in the wonders of nature. I like people who want to get their boots dirty. Brides and grooms who don’t mind taking photos in the rain, or even inclement weather. People who make the most of the situation at hand. People who want to explore and find something new they didn’t notice before.

These things are not set in stone: I am able to work with a lot of people, and we end up having the greatest session of a lifetime! However, if these things are not things that you can handle, then I just might not be the photographer for you. If you’re not sure, still, feel free to send me an inquiry. If it turns out we can’t work together, I would be more than happy to point you one of my many esteemed friends in the industry.
