I put an ad out on Facebook letting people know I was doing a photography give away for couples in Grand Rapids, MI. That’s when one of my great high school friends asked me if I would do her maternity photos. Now I was a little nervous, I mean, yes, I am a portrait photographer, but I’ve never taken maternity photos. Nonetheless, I couldn’t resist to capture portraits for my best friend on her pregnancy Journey!
Aislynn chose Holland State Park & Grand Rapids, Michigan for her maternity portrait session. We were bursting with excitement as the day drew close. However, as always, Michigan weather has other ideas for us. An Arctic airmass gave us a gift of single digit wind chills. Yes: single digit! This didn’t discourage Aislynn from going ahead with the shoot.
I arrived at the beach and knew from the start I was going to die. Aislynn has a built in heater so she’s just fine. “it’s quite refreshing” she said as the wind hurt my face. Corbin (Aislynn’s boyfriend) was also freezing to death as well, so we decided to rock out the beach portion within 30 minutes. Yep, we made magic in 30 minutes.
Now, even though it’s my first time conducting a maternity portrait session, I know they should be longer than 30 minutes. So I told Aislynn she could choose another location. She asked her dad for some help, and they chose an iconic railway bridge in Grand Rapids, and the beautiful riverfront.
The Magic We Created:
The perks of carrying a baby is having a built in heater.
You can’t always see the way he looks at you, but I can.
A prime of example of how we all handle the cold differently
We got a little creative with the baby bump…
